“BLACK PEARLS”CERTIFICATE IV IN SCREEN & MEDIA.QPIX’s BLACK PEARLS is a breakthrough screen training course designed especially to train Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders and prepare them for building their own careers and businesses in the screen industries. BLACK PEARLS is the first course of its type in the country. Graduates will receive a CERTIFICATE IV IN SCREEN & MEDIA. The BLACK PEARLS course will be very concentrated, and students will make a lot of screen content. They will work in rolling sets of teams and participate in, and also sometimes direct, the making of short dramas; documentaries & family histories; television commercials (TVC’s) for actual businesses; and music video clips (MVC’s) for working bands. They will also be provided with small budgets on some of these productions. The course is heavily built on production. We know the more films people make, the better they learn. Students will also be taught some business skills through creating their own business plans (with budgets), and be introduced to new media platforms and the ways they link with filmmaking. There will be a single teacher who can teach all of the skills, and an Indigenous Support Officer will be on staff for the whole course. Guest lecturers will also come into the course on the way through to teach specialised parts of the course. People will not only learn a lot in this course, it will be exciting doing it. If you’ve been wanting to make cinema, have your say, tell your stories, tell the stories of your family, and learn something about the business of making a living as a filmmaker, BLACK PEARLS is the course you have been waiting for. Course will commence 23rd February and end on 19th June. BLACK PEARLS is funded by the State DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT EDUCATION & TRAINING. All students will receive therefore heavily subsidized access to this high-cost course. Students will pay approximately $800 for the full course, or 25% of that if they hold a Health Care Card. BLACK PEARLS is supported by RADIO 98.9FM, BLAK BUSINESS/ SMART BUSINESS; CENTRE FOR ABORIGINAL INDEPENDENCE & ENTERPRISE; ABORIGINAL CENTRE FOR PERFORMING ARTS, & SCREEN AUSTRALIA.
