Advanced Diploma of Screen (CUF60101) - Part Time Print

 

The QPIX Training intensive Advanced Diploma of Screen is divided into 3 parts: The Writer’s cluster. the Director’s cluster, and the Producer’s cluster. Students in the Director’s cluster will work in teams or 4 or 5, depending on the number of students in any one semester.

In the Writer’s cluster, students will undergo an intensive screenplay development process, passing through a number of drafts to a camera-ready script. Across different semesters, this will be delivered in a variety of types, covering writing for short drama, feature dramas, television drama series, documentary, and an extended variety of sub-types in the multi-platform environment.

In the Director’s cluster, students will undertake one short drama as director, and crew on the productions of each of their fellow students in their cluster team in a variety of roles.

In the Producer’s cluster, students will be attached to a QPIX Training production as Producer.

Timeframes will be tight and standards will be demanding.  As with all QPIX Training programs, the course will be thorough, intensive, industrially modelled, with a strong bias towards production.

Pre-requisites are Cert. IV in Screen, Diploma of Screen,  a tertiary qualification in screen or a related subject area such as media, and/or other industry experience.  (conditions apply)

Structure and Duration

The clusters that comprise the course will be delivered part time, so students can retain their jobs.

Graduates who have successfully completed all units of this course will receive the award of CUF60101 Advanced Diploma of Screen. In addition, as a result of additional training included by QPIX Training, they will have gained the QPIX advantage of having acquired the well-rounded range of skills necessary to work as filmmakers, with advanced skills and knowledge of the complete process of filmmaking from concept to screen. They will also have gained a number of screen credits in a variety of significant roles.

The QPIX Training  ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF SCREEN is designed to assist the pragmatic, business-minded filmmaker in three of the most complex areas of the business – writing, producing & directing dramatic narrative screen product. This set of skills is essential in the manufacture of all screen product, from documentary through to ultra-short mobile phone content. Over the period of the course the participants will have to participate in or take full responsibility for the production of a wide variety of product. The course is designed to provide the career-minded filmmaker with a serious, intensive immersion in the realities of working in industrial narrative forms.


SCREENWRITING
5 units towards the ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF SCREEN - film, television, mobile content, multi-platform product, documentary or feature strands (not all strands offered every year). Games narrative will be incorporated in coming years. More will be developed to match new forms.  Other forms such as writing for interactive drama will be offered over coming semesters. Each form of the course will require the completion of at least one significantly advanced script for the targeted form.

PRODUCING
The full Cluster involves 11 units towards the ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF SCREEN – a wide ranging course on the discipline of producing, incorporating the latest information on the industry and the way it is developing and changing. Apart from completing the assessments associated with each subject area (unit), students will also be attached to a QPIX production as Assistant Producers as an integral part of their course.

2008 NOTE: The Producer's Cluster on offer in 2008 under our agreement with the Department of Education, Training and the Arts is 7 of those 11 Units, a significant proportion of the full cluster.

DIRECTING
8 units towards the ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF SCREEN – an opportunity to work with actors on your chosen script for short drama production. Apart from completing the assessments associated with each subject area (unit) students will also direct their own short drama production, and crew on all the productions of their fellow team members within the cluster.

2008 NOTE: The Director's Cluster on offer in 2008 under our agreement with the Department of Education, Training and the Arts is 6 of those 8 Units, a significant proportion of the full cluster.


Successful completion of all units, including the core units, gains an ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF SCREEN CUF60101 - This can lead to articulation into 2nd  year Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film & TV) at QUT, and mid-2nd year in the equivalent course in screen at USQ, depending on the quality of your portfolio.
